GREEN Low Risk

  • Create an “Emergency Disinformation Inoculation Kit” for your household that includes previously documented cases of misinformation and ways to recognize propaganda and the elements of the Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt (FUD) strategy.
  • Be informed. Visit LafayetteProFiber.com, obtain copies of the Fact Check articles found there, and regularly review the news blog at that site.
  • Know how to shelter-in-place and how to remove yourself from damaged information channels (cable, talk radio, and idle fear-mongering) entering your home.
  • Search out opportunities in your community to inform or clarify issues individually or through the media, and devote your time to factual, direct discussion of the real issues involved.
  • Consider completing a Disinformation Inoculation Program or Citizen! Alert! course, or join a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
BLUE Guarded Risk
  • Complete recommended steps at level green.
  • Review stored “Emergency Disinformation Kit” documents and strategies and replace items that are outdated.
  • Be alert to misinformation activity and report it to your friends and neighbors.
YELLOW Elevated Risk
  • Complete recommended steps at levels green and blue.
  • Ensure Disinformation Kit is stocked and ready.
  • Check that your access to truthful, accurate information is clear and update as necessary
  • Create alternate ways to develop rational discussions and avoid dubious arguments and practice them.
  • Continue to be alert to misinformation activity and report it to your friends and neighbors.
ORANGE High Risk
  • Complete recommended steps at lower levels.
  • Exercise special caution concerning information, pay attention to disinformation advisories.
  • Review your family emergency plan and make sure all family members know what to do to protect themselves in the event of a disinformation attack.
  • Be Patient. Expect some delays, spend more time confirming information and be aware of what is not being said or reported.
  • Check on neighbors or others that might need assistance in a disinformation emergency.
RED
Severe Risk
  • Complete all recommended actions at lower levels.
  • Listen for local voices and concerns in the incumbent-generated cacaphony.
  • Stay tuned to Lafayette Pro Fiber for current information and the disinformation attack status.
  • Be prepared to shelter-in-place and engage in active countermeasures.
  • Expect information distortions and restrictions.
  • Provide volunteer information services and clean up misinformation as it is located.
