The car between cult and criticism

From enthusiastic enthusiasm to expert criticism

This car was and still is, a cult of art. That’s what Kunstare Emden wants to show. As an aesthetic object, a grotesque sculpture, a social symbol, or a nostalgic glory, it continues to roll through art history to this day.

The artistic research of automobiles in the early 20th century reflected an enthusiastic enthusiasm for technology like the gotu, but in pop art, in the 1960s it was used as an analogy of art and society.

250 years of mobility with one installation

But nowadays, artists are looking at the car “slightly subtly”. Young artists are also willing to work on this subject. Gavin Turk has placed silencers in the showcase as a vague sign of automotive aesthetics. Asta Gröting laid out Goethe’s carriage, Adenauer’s Mercedes, and her smart replica underbody as a surprisingly ironic image of migrating mobility on the museum floor.
“It’s exciting to see 250 years of mobility between them and how they evolved. First, there’s the spoken wheel drive, then the luxury of the state car, and then suddenly this plastic. There’s a little digital smart. Of course, that’s a big step forward. ”

This includes Goethe’s carriage

We’re referencing the situation here and there, including drawing silencers and soot particles. This includes installations by Asta Gröting. This installation compares Goethe’s carriage, Adenauer’s Mercedes, and her own little smart. First, there is the spoked wheel drive, then the luxury of the state car, and then suddenly this little digital smart made of plastic. Of course, this is a really big step forward.

“We are on the evolution of mobility”

But, of course, we are at a point where we have to introduce ourselves. We are approaching the evolution of mobility and we have to change a lot. We talk a lot about autonomous driving, but are you accustomed to the fact that you really have to give up a lot of control over your machine? Or wasn’t it a little fun to operate a machine and drive your own car to connect history, memories, and personal experiences? Or this feeling that we can go to Italy for a short time, or that this individual mobility gives us a certain degree of freedom.

And, of course, there are downsides to the whole. Then the artist comes in, rings it, and holds both in front of you like a mirror. That’s important. This means that you are always preparing this multi-view of facts, not just fighting it, but fighting just for it: we are still driving a car But it is impossible to pollute our environment. But at the same time, sales continue to grow. And this contradiction, every human being has it. And that’s where the people, these drivers, have to take a look at themselves.
